    • clapping and getting excited when baby does something good or new encourages him? He gets really proud of himself and loves pleasing mum and everybody else. So, don't forget to heap praises each time your baby does something new.

    • the best way to administer medicines without having it spat back at you is by using an oral syringe? Here's how... aim for the inside cheek of the baby, not the throat. The baby will automatically swallow the medicine and not gaggle if the medicine is hit at the back of the throat.

    • you have to keep talking to your baby even though they are still little? Baby is listening to you even though you might think that he does not understand you and this in turn will enable him to develop his speech in the early stage.

    • if your baby refuses to go to sleep, you should gently caress between the eyes and along the nose? This way, baby's eyes will be forced to close and eventually she'll get drousy and fall asleep.

    • Pull baby's mittens inside out using your thumb and two forefingers before sliding them onto baby wrists.

    • Readjust your budget and start saving if you plan to stay home instead of working after the baby arrives.

    • Put your sterilised bottles and teats into the fridge. It keeps them stay sterilised for 24 hours.

    • Cut back on coffee, coke and caffeinated drinks if you are breastfeeding and your baby is having trouble sleeping.

    • To remove cradle cap, smear plenty of baby oil onto baby's scalp and gently rub with a soft toothbrush.

    • Do not let baby get smouldered with excessive pillows, fluffy beddings and soft furry toys. Take them away from the crib.

    • Paste a list of important emergency phone numbers next to the telephone for your caregiver if you decide to take a time-out.

    • Avoid sleeping with your baby on the bed. You may risk suffocating your baby if you are a heavy sleeper or on sedatives.

    • Bring your baby out occasionally for some fresh air. It keeps baby lively and make her sleep more soundly.

    • Never let your baby eat or play with small objects such as peanuts, buttons, raisins etc.

    • Use a plastic dropper to suck out excess mucous when your baby has a runny nose and is finding it hard to breath.

    • Keep an up-to-date first-aid kit on hand & equip yourself with first-aid know-how.

    • Use a kneeguard to cushioned baby's knee when your baby is starting to learn how to crawl.

    • Always remain calm during an injury. Getting panic will only make your baby more fretful. Administer basic first aid.

    • Choose brightly coloured hardcover books or softly cushioned fabric books for your baby.

    • Choose a highchair that has wide, stable base to reduce the risk of baby tipping over. It should also have a waist and crotch strap.

    • Cot slats should not be more than 5 cm apart to prevent baby's head from being trapped between slats.

    • To model safe behavior, mum and dad should always wear seat belts in the car.
